This temple has been constructed by His Highness Sri Chikka Devaraja  Wodeyar The erstwhile ruler in 11th century , later his son Kanteerva Wodeyar presented 4 villages to cater the daily pooja's needs of the temple for nil consideration.

Opposite to the temple there was large Parade ground conducted by the then British soldiers Behind the temple there is a summer palace even today constructed by the then Nawab Hyder Ali Khan and Tippu  Sultan During the Third Mysore war in 1791 under the instruction of Lord Carnival's the then Governor general of India The bullet aimed at Tippu Sultan by British army from the Parade ground hit the GARUDA GAMBHA (Pillar) of the temple and thus Garuda Gambha saved the life of Tippu Sultan. Both Hyder Ali and Tippu sultan had special reverence and regard for this temple . We can even say this temple became a holy place for  fostering Hindu Muslim Unity.

The temple building is based on Dravidian style of architecture the stone wall the sacred Santorum depicts Girija Kalyana with various Idol of Brahma-Vishnu-Maheshwara, Saptha Rishis, Saptha Narthakies , Ashta Dikpalakas, there are four huge pillars with intricate Carvings of Navaranga sculptors.

The sacred sanctorum has the main deity of Sri Kote Prasanna Venkataramna Swamy  to its south east is Sri Anjaneya Swami ,and to its north east is Maha Lakshmi Thayar, Then Uthsavar Moorthy with Consort Sri And Bhoo Devi ,

On 15-10-1811 H H Mumidi Krishna Raja Wodeyar first performed Pooja here before conducting special durbar at Tippu's Summer Palace behind the temple.

As per Pancharathra agama daily Aradhana's are performed and in the month of May/June (Vrushaba Masa under Star Pubbha Constellation) Annual Car festival of the Lord is conducted .  Special Pooja is conducted on UGADI Day , Every Shravana Nakshatram, Vishnu Deepam, Dhannur masa Pooja and Special Venai Alankaram is done on Vaikunta Ekadasi Day.

The Temple Timings are Daily Morning 8.30 Am to 12.00 Pm and Evening 6.00 Pm to 9.00 Pm. On Saturday special Pooja is done
