The Ranganatha Swamy  Temple situated in Kalkunte a place in between Bangalore and Malur in Kolar District and it is 35 Km from Bangalore. A small Agrahara is still there and  it has produced many illustrious people like Dr.Varadhachari etc.

The Sthala Puranams says that Srinivasa temple existed long back and the Moola Moorthy disfigured ( Binnam) and for long time there was no idol , say 300 years ago some one dreamt that they should reach VAKALERE  Lake in Kolar district and there they will find a swayambu Murthy of Lord Ranganatha under a Ant-hill. The elders of the village reached the VAKALERE and behold they found our Lord under the ant Hill and they brought it to Kalkunte and built a small temple and started doing Pooja, The main occupation of the Village was stitching the Thaiyal Ellai ( As the people used to partake food in leaves stitched together.) Slowly due to grace of Lord Ranganatha the standard of people started rising up and the villagers progressed in every front.

Now we enter the Small and compact temple of Lord Ranganatha Swamy of Kalkunte. And here Swamy gives you darshan with usual anantha sayanam pose along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi at the feet , Brahma in Nabhi Kamalam a small but lovely Moorthy.

Then on the right side of the Lord you can find the small Sannidhi for Sri Ranganayaki Thayar. 

Then on left side you can find the Sannidhi for Andal.

Then there is a interesting story how the Uthsavar came here. The people long back went to Mysore Palace and over night they lifted a Uthsavar from the Palace without the knowledge of the King, in the melee the Pettam got damaged and the people  did not do the prathistai and they wanted to make anew Uthsavar and they tried their level best but the moorthy's shape would not come, then in dream as usual told that they can repair the peetam and do the Prathistai to the same Moorthy which was brought from Mysore. The Moorthy looks very beautiful.

Now they have formed a Samithi named " Sri Ranganatha Seva Samithi" and conduct all Uthsavams. The annual Car Festival takes place on Pubbha Nakshatram in the Magha Masam

To visit the temple one has to take the road to go to Airport , then to Marthahalli then Hope Farm cross near Whitefield and take a right turn at Channasandra ( Famous land mark is M V J College of Engineering) . Channasandra is on NH-207. One then has to travel toward Saniatamallasandra, Ettukodi and Kalkunte Agrahara to reach Chikka Tirupathi.

The Temple Timings are Daily Morning 8.00 Am to 12.00 Pm and Evening 5.30 Pm to 8.30 Pm.
