Hedathale

Sri Lakshmikantha Perumal Temple

The temple is dedicated to Lakshmikantha Perumal. It was built in 1182 CE, It was built by Hoysala's, This is known as Thrikutachala Style of temples . Thrikuta Means three. The Pradhana Sannidhi is of Sri Lakshmikantha Perumal  and to the right is Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal Sannidhi and to the left is Venugopala Perumal Sannidhi. Hoysalas built this type of Thrikutachala Temple in five different places they are Hedathale,  Holenarsipur, Hospete near K R Pet, Mavinakere and one more place. Each place the Importance and first Pooja is given to different deities. In Hedathale it is Lakshmikantha Perumal , In Holenarsipur it is Lakshminarasimhan in K R Pet it is Venugopala. Now we enter the temple go inside right in front of us we get Lakshmikantha Perumal what a radiant face, Then once you have darshan you come out of Sannidhi you will find Lord Lakshminarasimhan The Moorthy is very nice and you will not feel to come out of this Sannidhi , Then Bag opposite to this Sannidhi is Sanidhi of Venugopala

Then if you come out right in front of you you will find a beautiful Idol of Andal, What a radiant beauty, I have not seen any other beautiful idol of Andal. The specialty of the particular Andal Idol is while the  sculpturing was going on , My Abhimana Guru H H Sri Ranga Priya Maha Desikan Swamigal of Ashtaanga Yoga VignyAna Mandiram personally supervised the moorthy and it is his Ubhayam to the temple. Please have a look at this finely sculptured moorthy of Andal. Then We have Idol of Vishwaksenar, Namalwar, Ramanuja Vedanta  Desikan etc. Ustava Moorthy of Ramanuja is once again the Ubhayam of H H Sri Ranga Priya Maha Desikan.  Now once again we are enter the Moola Sthanam of Srikantha Perumal aka Lakshmikantha Perumal, Before that H H Sri Ranga Priya Maha Desikan used to say there are Dwadasha Type of Moorthy's. To identify different morthys there are different postures for example Srinivasa there are two arms with Katka Hastha , Lakshmikantha Four arms , Shanku Chakra in Samasarna Mudra in  Front ( in reverse order ) and Padma and Gada at the back. The specialty of Samasarna Mudra is that  If a Acharyan Does Samasarna then he holds the Shanku in his right hand and Chakra in in his left hand, then only while doing Samasarna he can place the Shanku in your Right hand and Chakra in left hand. So here in Hedathale Lakshmikantha Perumal also has Samasarna Mudra. Like this Mudra you can find only in Pancha Narayana Kshetram established by our Udayavar and King Vishnuvardhan, The Pancha Narayana Kshetram are Sri Thiru Narayana Temple at Melkote  Nambi Narayana Temple at Thondanur Keerthi Narayan temple at Talakad, Veera Narayana temple at Belur and Vijaya Narayana at Gadag ( I have seen Samasarna Mudra at Thondanur , Talakad And Belur ). Then if you come out You can find Chavadi or Hadinaru Mukha Chavadi ( 16 Point Chavadi) , Chavadi is nothing but big Hall. The temple an the Chavadi was built by Then Pallegara Bhimana Dhanda Nayaka , There is a interesting story behind it. They say Bhimana Dhanda Nayaka had sixteen daughters, and he wanted to talk to all the sixteen daughter and sixteen Son in laws. In Then if you for minute assume you are Bhimana Dhanda Nayaka's wife who will sit along with her husband then she can see all her sixteen daughter's  who are sitting with their husbands in all sixteen points. This you will understand better if you sit there practically, It was very interesting when Archakar narrated this to us,

Archakar also informed me that few years back the temple was in ruins and all the anti social elements of village used to misuse the temple. Then One of the two great sons which Hedathale village has Produced  H H Sri Rangapriya Swamigal took initiative and requested Sriman Gopal and Venu Srinivasan  of T V S company to help and restore the sanithya of this beautiful temple., Even thought this temple is Heritage site under Archeological Survey of India and State government they did not care much. As usual our Sriman Gopal and Venu Srinivasan  of T V S company  gave a helping hand and they helped in building the temple once again and restore its old glory. Archakar informed all the stones were numbered and and then temple was rebuilt. Now you can have wonderful Darshan of these perumal due to Sriman Gopal and Venu Srinivasan  of T V S company . In Karnataka in Tumkur TVS people have restored the Devarayana Durg Temple and At Sathyagalam at the request of  H H Sri Rangapriya Swamigal they have donated a large sum for Nitya Aradhanam. May their tribe increase.

It will not be out of place to mention that my Late Uncle S. Parthasarathy Ayyangar , ML IP, Former Commissioner of Police - Madras Presidency and I Inspector General of Police was a good friend of Founder of TVS group Sriman Sundaram Iyengar.

Sriman Narayan who is the Archakar of the Temple is Nephew of H H Sri Rangapriya Swamigal , their house is close by temple and he resides in Poorva Ashram House of H H Sri Rangapriya Swamigal , The beauty is Temple is Flanked by two illustrious  sons of Hedathale namely H H Sri Ranga Guru and H H Sri Rangapriya Swamigal .
