Sri Varadharaja Swamy Temple 

Here lot of sages and siddha Purushas did Tapasya, The famous sages were Ruchika Muni and Mrigashinga Muni. If the Ruchika Muni's ashrama was in left bank of Cauvery, then on left bank Mrigashinga Muni's ashram was in right bank that is Hemmige ( Gajaranya Kshetram also known as Siddha Ashrama Kshetram) Mrigashinga did severe penance to Goddess Bhramrambhika , appeased with  sages penance appeared before him and asked what he wants. Sage Mrigashinga asked for Moksha , for that devi told that her brother  Sriman Narayana alone can give Moksha , then she told that Her brother Lord Varadharaja is there in a anthill on banks of Cauvery , Please do the Prathistai , do Pooja to him and through him you can attain Moksha. Then Sage Mrigashinga went found the anthill in the banks of river Cauvery , He dug the Ant hill and behold he found our Lord Varadharaja with Shanku, Chakra and Gada and with Abhaya Hastha pose .with his Consorts Sri and Bhoo Devi in Garuda Peetam. The Moorthy was very beautiful. Then Bhramrambhika gave a golden Vigraham of Hemambika with Shanku , Chakra, and Abhaya Hastha in left hand held Hemadri Hills , because of this it was known as Hemambika Agrahara and in later days it became Hemmige. There is a interesting Story How The Perun Devi thayar came to Hemmige. There lived a lady named Modesinghamma , Our Perundevi thayar appeared in her  dream and told that she is in a small place in Mysore Devaraja Market. Then Modesinghamma  traveled to Mysore and met the Mysore Maharaja and Explained her dream to Raja and raja told her if the moorthy is there she can take it to Hemmige. Behold there was a Perun devi Thayar in Padma Peetam.

Hemmige also has connection with all great Acharyas including Acharya Sarva Bhowma Our Udayavar. Our Ramanuja Charya stayed her for ten days on his way to Talakad.

Swamy Desikan Also stayed here for months together and then proceeded to Sathyagalam.

Andavan Ashram has a connection with Hemmige  Right from Periya Andavan, China Andavan , KaTAndethi Andavan (Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Desikan) , Nam Andavan, Thembarai Andavan, Akkur Andavan, ThiruKudanthai Andavan all have come and stayed in Hemmige for some time and did the Mangala Sasnam of Varadharajar.

How to reach Hemmige: First Reach Mysore then travel to T.Narsipur which is 32 Kms, then travel 12 Kms further you will reach Hemmige.
