Sampige
Sri Srinivasa Swamy Temple
Champakapuri
Kshetram popularly known as Sampige is a small village in Turuvekere
Taluk of Tumkur District in Karnataka. It is nearly 104 Kms from
Bangalore. The name of the place is related to Champaka Pushpa trees which
were found in this place in the ancient times.
Here an ancient Temple of Sri Srinivasa Perumal is situated which
according to the Sthala puranam dates back to Dwapara yuga. This place was
the capital of King Sudhanva and he worshipped
Lord
Srinivasa. After his rule the place was under ruins. The idol of Lord
Srinivasa was
hidden in a Valmika and Narada accompanied by the Gandharvas used to
worship the deity every night.
A villager noticed a bright light in the Valmika and to their astonishment
found the Idol of Srinivasa Perumal in it. They built a temple as it is
now in that place.
